Why Kath Laffey is a Member of the Foundation
My name is Kath Laffey and I have been a member of the Foundation since 1991.
o
I’m a member of the Foundation for a number of reasons: I have always valued the information and referral role the Foundation takes on, linking consumers and carers with services but just as importantly linking them with others in the same situation.
o
Mental illness is such an alienating and isolating experience, these linkages and having someone listen and advise with compassion, patience and wisdom is more important than anything else. I also value the linkages the Foundation maintains with various arms of government and service delivery agencies and its advocacy for the rights and interests of people living with and/or caring for a person with, mental illness.
o
As a result of this, there are sometimes unique opportunities to listen and to provide feedback to services. For example, earlier this year was an open consultation meeting with the Mental Health Crisis, Triage and Treatment (CATT) Team. I also think the whole concept of The Rainbow is fantastic and seek to support innovative and creative initiatives such as this.
o
I’m proud to be a member of the Foundation and if you are thinking of joining the Foundation I am sure you will be too!
o
With thanks to Kath for her comments and her ongoing support to the Mental Health Foundation (ACT).
