A donation, no matter the size, can make such a profound difference to the life of someone living with a mental illness. Everyday we see the crippling effects of mental illnesses on people and their families. Job prospects, relationships and in some cases a safe place to live may all become issues.
Work worries
Life may become overwhelming difficult for people living with a mental illness from time to time. Their hopes, dreams, and motivation to engage with their community may reduce, or even change on a daily basis, many may reach a point where it is difficult to go to work or they forget what it is like to be well.
The Mental Health Foundation recognises employment as a significant area of concern for people living with a severe mental illness – having a steady, reliable income and an accepting place of work, together, keep people living with a mental illness well. But experience shows that people have difficulty in entering the workforce, retaining their jobs, or returning to work after an episode of being unwell.
Gemini
The Foundation has a new flexible employment project called Gemini, which needs your support. Gemini creates work opportunities for people living with a mental illness. We assist people in using their skills to meet new and existing work opportunities. This may mean:
- Assisting people in setting up their own home based businesses, such as garden maintenance or ironing services. This provides opportunities for people living with mental illness to become and stay well, as their workload is flexible and based on their capacities at the time.
- Connecting people with mentors who have their own experiences of mental illness. Giving people ideas and hope for the future by hearing life stories of others.
Donate to Gemini
You are giving hope to people severely affected by mental illness, through work opportunities and the development of life skills.
