Mark's Place | Carers Respite

Everyday carers lovingly support and do all that they can to provide family or friends with a reasonable quality of life, assisting them both mentally and physically with many of their day-to-day activities. These selfless acts make such a difference to the person they care for and broadly in our community.
Understandably this level of caring may lead people to at times feel drained and overwhelmed with the ongoing support they provide. During such times, carers may like to consider accepting help from others, such as friends, or from service providers and getting some support of their own.
Mark’s Place, a new service offered in Canberra by the Mental Health Foundation (ACT), provides recharging opportunities for Carers of adults living with a mental illness. This service has been designed to give Carers a reprieve from their usual duties. The Foundation either: provides temporary respite and cares for your family member or friend; and can give you an opportunity to get out and away from your home, staying at our Southside based property.
Foundation staff ensure that you and the person you care for are both well looked after during your stay with us. In this time you may simply enjoy relaxing by reading a good book; meeting up with friends; going to the movies; or other enjoyable activities you may otherwise be unable to do as a busy Carer.
