Volunteer Directors

Mental Health Foundation ACT (MHF) is seeking professional, values-driven leaders to join our Board of Directors. As part of planned Board renewal, recent governance changes and upcoming director succession, we are seeking to appoint two new Volunteer Directors to help shape the organisation’s next chapter and strengthen our impact across the ACT community.

This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to an organisation making a tangible difference in the lives of Canberrans. Every day, MHF supports people through recovery-focused mental health services, counselling, accommodation, capacity building and community partnerships, helping people live with hope, choice and good mental health.

As we continue to evolve and expand our impact, we are looking for new directors who will bring fresh thinking, diverse perspectives and a commitment to strong governance.

Our Board is collaborative, collegiate and highly engaged.

Directors work alongside an experienced executive team to provide strategic direction, good governance and thoughtful oversight, while supporting innovation and sustainable growth. Board members are encouraged to contribute their expertise, challenge constructively and work together to strengthen both the organisation and the communities we serve.

This is a Board where relationships matter, ideas are welcomed and every director has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

We also welcome applications from people who bring lived or living experience of mental health, experience as a carer, and those with strong connections across Canberra’s diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

While previous board experience is welcomed, it is not essential for candidates who can demonstrate strong leadership, strategic thinking and a commitment to good governance.

This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 3-5 hours per month, including attendance at Board meetings and occasional committee participation.

Applicants should be based in, or have a strong connection to, the Canberra region.

If you’re looking for a rewarding governance opportunity where your experience can help improve mental health outcomes across our community, we’d love to hear from you.
